Chapter VII

Lorel

I woke up on my white silk sheets playing “Pretty Girls Lie” by Trey Songz on my phone. My head was pounding with pain and my legs were incredibly sore. I looked over at my left side to see there was no sign of Kendrick. Was last night a dream or did he leave me once again?

I stood up slowly from the bed, starting to make my way over to the bathroom. I look into the mirror and all I saw was hickies on my neck and shoulders.

I knew last night was the worst mistake, but it was also pleasurable. I couldn’t resist when it came to Kendrick because he was my first everything and always would be. My mother warned my ass when I told her about our relationship, “Some people can change, just make you sure you ain’t one when it comes to him.”

I decided to invite Jhemini to meet with me at McDonald’s in two hours. She was the only person in my life who won’t judge me when it came to how my relationship was. Many girls would’ve never gone back but I did. I placed my phone up on the bathroom counter before I made my way into the closet to get my outfit. But I saw a black pistol hidden underneath my jeans. What the fuck? I looked at it before I touched it. I knew Kendrick’s ass wasn’t stupid enough to put this in my closet. I tossed it back and hid it under my clothes again.

I plugged in my heater so I could use it when I got out. I stepped into the shower as I listened to my phone play “Love Shoulda Brought You Home” by Toni Braxton. As the song took its course, my pain and thoughts away.

Last night, it was if our souls connected again as we held each other close. I knew Kendrick was bad for my health and it could kill me, but I was staying here until I had enough of no love. I heard a knock at my door before I let my hair get wet.

“Hold on,” I replied to the knocking. When I stepped out, spraying my body down to my Beyoncé perfume. I threw on my tight, high waist jeans, crop shirt and black blazer. I walked into the bedroom to see Kendrick laying on my bed fully dressed. What the fuck?

I slightly rolled my eyes, grabbing my phone and purse to avoid any conversation with Kendrick. I knew I said that I accepted his apology but I was still mad at his ass coming in late this morning.

“Why the fuck? You’re not talking to me?” Kendrick asked before he stood up from the bed. “Yo, answer my question,” he demanded once again before he pushed me back gently. “Lorel, you don’t hear me talking to you?” he questioned.

I looked at him gritting my teeth before I place my hair in a bun. “Kendrick Jamal King… Get the fuck out my way before I say what I want.
